Smoke & Light Project
April 6, 2008

Here are a few images from my photography project that I am currently working on using nothing more than a few incense sticks and an off camera flash. I then uploaded the images to my PC and edited them in Photoshop to create my desired effect.

If you are attempting to try these images yourself using your own camera and equipment my main advice would be to enjoy the experience - you will find that you end up taking hundreds of images and when you first upload them you may find that you are unhappy with quite a few but don’t delete them straight away, the fun starts when you start to post process the images in Photoshop or another photo editing software.
All of the above images have been shot against a black background and then I created a negative image in photoshop and played around with the colour of the smoke - I suggest you experiment with different settings until you find a selection you are happy with, whether it be hue/saturation, cross processing or maybe try the image in black and white?
There really is no limits to this photography project and you can colour and crop the image how you like - the end product will look great either as a photograph or even a canvas print as I have done with several of my own smoke images.
All of these images were inspired by the talented photographer Graham Jefferey who did a series of images involving smoke and light on his website called sensitive light.
